We finally Made it to Accra, Ghana Africa

Thankgoodness I finally made it to Accra, Ghana Africa!!
After sitting on the plane and watching the roof collapse, cancelling the flight and waiting one more day to leave to New York, to having group visa struggles, to having no departure name on our ticket so we couldn't go through security, to waiting on the run way for an extra hour to take off, to wanting to puke the whole 10 hour plane ride.... We FINALLY made it to Ghana!!

It has been one adventure for sure!! NO doubt about that! As soon as we were landing in Accra I looked out the window across from me and the land looked like a desert but yet so green and lush! So Pretty!! When our plane landed we walked off down the stairs and immediately I felt the humidity and heat! And so was the beginning of a sweaty fest! YE HAW!!  My feet have been twice their size, swollen, red, hot, and sweaty! Good thing I'm wearing flip flops!!

As my group went through customs, everyone got through except me... of course!! I could feel it! I knew they would check me!... But don't worry I made it through! Thank goodness!  As we picked up our luggage at baggage claim... none of our luggage was showing up... we were a little nervous. We waited for quite awhile but ALL our luggage actually got here!!! That was a shock to all of us especially because we put our luggage in Delta's hands the day our flight cancelled and they said they would put it on our next flight the next day... and they did!

We walked out of the airport and it was so WONDERFUL to see Lynley (our professor)!!! We had finally for real made it!!  We traveled about  20 minutes to the Pink Hostil and got all settled in our rooms.  I am sharing a room with Bailey, Hilary, and Ashlee.

So I still am not the best at blogging... so my pictures went in the wrong order than I wanted to be in... so the pictures start with what happened today up till the first day when we arrived. Hope you have fun reading and looking at picures! :)

This is Don. D. He has come to the hostile everyday to sale us stuff.. Today he brought these really cool paintings.. They were a little expensive but I thought... Hey this is a once in a life time experience.. so I bought this one! He had tons of really cool paintings and they are paintings he actually did himself.

This is me Don. D. Mindy and Kathleen

Ok so this is Bailey, Me, and Hilary on our way to church today in a taxi.. Crazy experience! The taxi drivers.. ok all drivers here are ABSOLUTELY CRAZY!! There are tons of huge buses on the streets that hold lots of ghanaians... they like to hang out the windows and doors of the buses, use their hands as blinkers and cut people off... They literally drive 80mph on tiny busy roads and will just cut anyone off and they love to use their brakes at the last minute.. We had 3 taxi's today to take us to church and none of them could find the church... we pulled over a million times and asked people on the street if they knew where the church was.... Bailey asked this one man if he knew where the LDS church was... he looked at us like we were wierd.. the she said.. "Do you know where the mormon church is"... they got it that time...Mormons! haha
As we continued to drive... our taxi driver seriously barely almost missed hitting a goat going 80 mph by like an inch... We squilled a little thinking we were going to hit it, but the taxi driver acted like it was normal.

We FINALLY made it to church!! :)
Also funny story.. last night we asked our hostile for towels so we could shower in the morning before church.. Charley (the Pink Hostile clerk man) said the Laundry man wasn't here so they wouldn't have towels until early morning... So we all got up early to shower and be ready for church by 8:30 am... we asked for towels and they said they wouldn't have any till 8:30.. which we had to leave by then... At this time we all haden't showered for two days! My hair was greasy and I felt disgusting!!!... But we wiped ourselves down with wipes, through up our hair and went to church! Don't worry I had a shower when we got home! :)

We have a wonderful chef named Bonzi! He has made us wonderful dinners! Tonight we had spagetti and meatballs with veggies in the spagetti and sauce! It was really good! We have fruit with every meal.

This is our room. Two bunkbeds with no AC!! Hot, moisty, and sweaty! Love it! haha That is Hilary sitting on her bed.

We have a mini Balcony just outside our bedroom and this is the view.

A couple random guys on a scooter thingamajig haha

This is another view from a window in our room.

Me and Ashlee share a bunk... I got the bottom.

We have to brush our teeth with and only drink bottled water! That is my worst fear that I'm going to forget to brush my teeth with bottled water and use the tap water and get sick... so far so good I have remembered! :)

This was our first meal on Saturday July 9th when we arrived at the hostile... Bonzi said he didn't want to scare us with culture food yet so he made us an all American dinner.. French fries, chicken strogenough, mango, and pineapple!
